Abstract
This book is an expanded introduction to the concepts and tools of epidemiology. It is aimed at readers who will be conducting epidemiologic studies themselves, as well as people who need a firm grasp of epidemiologic principles in order to interpret and evaluate studies conducted by others. The book’s chapters are organized around three main themes: general concepts and tools of epidemiology; major study designs – randomized trials, cohort studies, case-control studies, and ecologic studies; and special topics, such as screening, outbreak investigation, and the use of epidemiology to evaluate policies and programs.
